Founders and Their Cats
Shirley-How It All Started
As an introvert, I once had a job that required constant social interaction—a challenge that left me drained. One evening, after an especially exhausting event, I came home seeking comfort from my kitten. But she wasn’t in the mood. When I tried to cuddle her, she playfully nipped me as if to say, "Not now!"
At first, I felt frustrated. But then it hit me—was I imposing my emotions on her, expecting her to comfort me just because I wanted her to? Did I assume, just because she was my pet, she owed me affection? That moment changed the way I saw cats. It taught me about mutual respect and understanding—lessons that continue to shape my journey.
Finding My First Feline Companion
My love for cats began in Kuwait, where I met Yun Yun (meaning Cloudy), a pure white British Shorthair who had been abandoned. I was introduced to him by Alisa, a longtime rescuer who dedicated her life to caring for stray cats.
Visiting Alisa’s home was eye-opening. Stray cats gravitated toward her—many she had cared for over the years. She provided food, medical treatment, and even spayed/neutered them. If a cat was young enough, she’d go the extra mile to find it a loving home. For older or unadoptable cats, her home became a sanctuary.
The day I adopted Cloudy, I knew I wanted to follow in her footsteps—to help strays, ease their suffering, and give them a chance at a better life. Cloudy wasn’t just a pet; he was the start of a lifelong mission that still inspires me today.

Rebecca-The Cat That Changed Everything
Jr Black was my first cat. To be honest, I wasn’t instantly drawn to her, but I knew adopting her would save her life. For two years, we coexisted like friendly roommates—until she fell seriously ill.
As a student without pet insurance, I hesitated when the vet told me the surgery would cost $3,000. But when I looked into her eyes, I knew I had to do whatever it took to save her. The surgery was successful, but she refused to eat unless I was there. I visited her every day, feeding her one bite at a time until she was strong enough to come home.
From then on, no matter how late I got back, she was always waiting by the door. That experience deepened our bond and taught me just how much trust and love a cat can give—if we truly understand them.
A Lesson from a Cat Café
While working in China, I co-founded a cat café in Luoyang. One of our cats, Blue Chubby, had been abandoned eight times before I took him in. He was defensive and aggressive—understandably wary of humans.
But before we closed the café, something incredible happened. Blue Chubby found his forever home with a woman named Wang. Unlike many visitors who came just to play with the cats, Wang saw something special in him. She visited often, showing patience and genuine care.
We explained his history and behavior, and after several visits, she adopted him. Follow-ups showed he adapted beautifully to his new home. His story reaffirmed what I believe: adopting a cat is like finding a life partner—it’s about understanding, connection, and commitment.
The Dream That Keeps Growing
Although the café has since closed, that experience planted a seed. I dream of creating a space where potential adopters can truly understand a cat’s personality before making a lifelong commitment—reducing abandonment and creating more happy endings.
At Moricat, we’re not just about fun costumes and cute accessories. We’re about making life with cats more joyful, meaningful, and full of love. Because at the end of the day, isn’t that what being a cat parent is all about?
